That was an Amazing Friday – A trip to Zikrit
Triumph of our spirit never ever ready to come down even while Qatari security official stopped our SUV due to suspected photo shoot of parliament and questioned each of us. Since he couldn’t find any harmful stuff and was obvious about us by checking our digital camera we’re let go and that’s when we actually kicking off the journey to Zikrit, North of Qatar.
It was a sunny afternoon and we we’re in two SUV’s and two cars, around 20 guys. Though we’re actually worried about survival of cars in deserts headed north of Qatar taking it granted zikrit sand dunes, rocks seductively beckoning us. As GPS screen showed it was a narrow exit from dukhan main road to the desert. Zikrit, as mentioned by one of our friend there are ostrich farm, old castle and a lot of archeological sites, which have to be accessed by adventures spinning N’ rolling. Load was well enough to keep us pushing on and on ahead.
After a around 45 minutes tough journey through soft sand and a couple of Bang-Wang with dunes and our cars , at last deep inside the desert we found an old name board / milestone leading us to ostrich farm ahead. Height of our excitement kicked up when we found the old castle. Recalling the plot of 1001 Arabian nights just treated our eyes with that magnificent look of olden days. People over there were kind of caretakers from Bedouin community and actually didn’t mind as we went on clicking snaps in and around. Then from there, despite the on going searching mission for ostrich farm we got to be unleashed with wild beauty of desert scenery which resembled alike a huge cup and saucer in no mans land. Rocks and sands formed hills and human made caves on top as it was a tribal settlement of bygone era. Vehicles were stopped instantly and all of us we’re running and climbing towards top of the rock hill. Few dare devils of us were fortunate enough to get over the peak and stayed there for quite some time. Screamed our lungs out as if victorious conquers of the world. Whilst the desert starts getting darker with the night and few stars on sky we decide to go back with an invitation from one friend of us to his house for a dinner. Yeah, all over it was an amazing Friday.
Cheers – Catsniper
We have Bahrain network on Dukhan beach as well. Glad to see people enjoying Zikreet, it's such a lovely place. Nice photos.
If you go about 20 km further up you will reach the Qatar Border with Bahrain. Acually you can see Bahrain from there and your mobile operator is Bahrain not Q-Tel :)
is it safe to bring a saloon car?
