Visiting for a week, where would you stay?

Just as the title states...

What hotel would you stay at?

What area would you prefer to be in?

(I will actually be coming for a week, so I'm trying to get a good sense of where I should stay!)

Tips, Ideas, opinions all welcomed!!

I was very puzzled when I saw on hotels.com that it didn't have a gym, and checked on their actual website which showed that they did. Thanks for your help qatarisun, its very much appreciated! I like your stories of how everything came together for you, its very interesting! I will prob make a decision for my stay in July within the next week or so, just wanted to get opinions from people here.

Thanks 2 all!

Intercon DOES have a gym. It is 5 stars hotel, of course it has! and pool, and beach, and souna...

I stayed in Qatar for 12 days, but I had no any intention to look for a job..I had good job back home.. I just came to visit my ex, who at that time relocated here from canada few months earlier.. as the things seemed to start getting better between us, we thought that if I found a job here, we probably could try to make up or so.. then I've gone back home, and I got a job absolutely accidently, when i less expected it..

Wow, I had no idea there is no public access to the beach! Very interesting, but in that case its not really important to me. I have gotten in touch with some friends of mine, the W and Intercon might be the best option as it is closer to where they live...although the Intercon does not have a gym! I'm leaning towards the W at the higher end of my search, and going to look for lower cost options, thanks so much Qatarisun all your advice has been welcome!

How long did you stay in Doha during that visit? How much longer after that visit did you decide to live in Doha, wondering if you were sold shortly after arrival! haha

staying few blockes from the water won't help you in terms of using this water.. In order to get to the beach you will still have to pay to the Hotel which does possess the access to the private beach, between 250 to 300 QR for 1 visit in order to access this beach. There are no public beaches in Doha. That's why it probably would make sense to check in to the hotel with the beach. You may want to check Marriott, they have - quite a miserable, but still.. - private beach.. And it might be within your budget..not sure though..

yeah, by the way, my ex invited me to come to Qatar for vacation, that's why i stayed at his place..:):) No Hotel was even considered..:)

elian - thanks for mentioning the W, I was actually interested in that place as well as they have a great deal going on for the time frame I am looking.

Qatarisun - Sorry, i should have clarified! I will be in Doha. I do have some friends I will be visiting as well as having interviews with prospective employers. I remember you mentioning your stay with your ex-boyfriend in a post somewhere on this sight, lucky you! I don't want something above $200 a night, but nothing to cheap (quality of course), which I assume is what you will get under $100? (feel free to correct me if I am wrong) I would like to stay a few blocks from the water, and not to far north towards the diplomatic area. (Al Sharq is an awesome location, but above the budget)

Not sure if it is too much to ask as I am guiding through Google maps and hotel locations/malls/etc...

Bluemountain, what's so Hahahahahaa about your question?

as for am01778, what exactly you are visiting? what country/city? if you are talking about qatar, it very depends on your budget. There are few nice hotels in Doha.. like Ritz Carlton, like W (contemporary), like La Cigal, Four seasons (classic), Hotel on souq (luxury traditional qatari design), etc. it depends on what do you want. If you want to have an access to the beach, I would chose either Al Sharq, or Four Seasons

or at least Intercontinental.. all depends..

when i came to qatar first time for vacation, i personally stayed at my ex-boyfriend's villa.. he wouldn't let me staying an the Hotel ;)
