You can drive to UAE, you need to get a Saudi Arabia transit visa, it is about 7 hours drive, depending on how many days you are going to Dubai for, if it is only weekend, i wouldn't recommend driving, take Fly Dubai and rent a car there, would be a lot of hassle free.
