Pregnant women flying – Fit to travel Certificate

Hi all,
My wife is flying back to my country next week. It is through Sri Lankan Airlines.

She is pregnant and now more than 12 weeks. And our doctor gave us the permission saying that this is good time to fly.

But the Sri Lankan airline needs a Fit to travel certificate from Doctor. Where my Doctor is telling there is no need of that because my wife is now more than 12 weeks.

Now I’m confused, both has 2 opinions.

Is there anyone who has similar experience and can anyone advice me on the experience u had…

AND will any other doctor give this certificate if I consult them…?

Please advice me on the priority of my wife’s and baby’s safety.

Thank you.

One of my friend is pregnant and her doctor issued her a certiicate ensuring that she is in good medical condition and fit to travel, it's always better to carry one in hand to avoid unwanted questioning from the airlines.

The doctor she consulted was Sabitha Prasad from Medcare, if your doctor is not ready to give one, try consulting the above mentioned doctor and get a check up and get the certificate in written.

GodFather.

No need to advise the Airline of the time scale. Normally fit totravel is for women over 30+ weeks.

Hi there,

Well i m surprised that ur wife is still in her first trimester and the airline authorities are asking for doctor's certificate..

I had travelled thru plane when i was in my second trimester and returned back to doha just a week before ahead of my third trimester..Noone asked me any certifcate though the dtrs told me i was absolutely fine to travel.

It doesn't take much time for a dtr to give certificate..I don't know why the dtr even putting her foot down to issue one...

Request the doctor and tell her ur wife won't be able to fly back to her country until n unless she(dtr)issues her a CLEAN CHIT CERTIFICATE stating the stable and fine condition of ur wife..
