Its available for pre-order but cannot be shipped to qatar. If it is shipped through aramex shop and ship will it still work in doha? they say it will work in over 100 countries...What do you guys think?
Hi, I'm about to move to Qatar in the next month, and am interested in this topic because I love my kindle. I am in France at the moment, and also load my account with a gift card and then buy. ( because amazon.co.uk won't send to me as my credit card address is out of Uk). This is really fast and easy, and I hope it continues to work in Doha.
Anyone got ideas on how I can meet up with others when I arrive? I'm a fairly fun loving friendly Scot, who won't see 50 again!
I understand you can get Kindle content but you have to buy an Amazon Gift Certificate and use it to "buy" the books. Kindles can be shipped via Aramex to Qatar.
Isn't the new Sony one a better product - plus it uses a format which is an "industry standard" rather than the restricted Kindle format. So there's a lot more sites to download from.
The PRS-700 is sleeker than the Kindle; faster processor speeds up the device; new touch-screen interface offers better ergonomics and is easier to use; with the addition of an optional memory card (SD or Memory Stick Pro), it's capable of storing thousands of electronic books; font size is adjustable; decent battery life; displays Word and PDF files (and zooms them), shows most image files, and plays MP3 and AAC audio; built-in LED lighting isn't great but allows you to read in the dark
At some point Amazon will have to offer the e-book format.
The kindle is good - but being tied to Amazon books only is a concern

You are not tied to Amazon.
I've been thinking about getting one myself.

to add comment, you will not be able to download content from Amazon if you use a Credit Card issued in Qatar.
but you will be able to get the Kindle device via Shop and Ship
If you had done a little more checking on amazon you would have seen this:
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to ship Kindles or offer Kindle content in Qatar.
