Museum of Modern Art opens in Qatar
Qatar's victorious bid to host the 2022 football world cup has put the tiny gulf state on the map.
And now the international art world has travelled to the capital Doha for the opening of a new museum of modern Arab art.
The works on display include those of an Iraqi artist, who has come up with a unique way of chronicling every moment of his life.
Al Jazeera's Joanna Blundell reports.
I visited the Museum of Modern Art yesterday and was very impressed. Although there is no clear indication that you have to enter via the main museum gate and I spent some time walking around the perimeter ;).
The entrance is secure yet inviting and the staff friendly. Currently there are 2 exhibits each featuring a variety of artists and a complete cross section of styles of art. From Paintings, Sculptures, Multi-Media presentations and spoken word/film you could spend a whole day enjoying the tour.
No photography is allowed inside the museum, which is a shame as I like to snap the artist information for future reference and some of the exhibits are so beautiful I would like to have pictures of them on my computer.
As always in Doha, admission is free (this would be very expensive in the UK) and the presentation is first class.
