is living alone in the gulf and Qatar dangerous for single women?

I've heard so many sad stories about arab women who were just sexually harrassed or even worse by their sponsors!!!

Is it true?

I was told that the sponsor keeps the passport of single women working for them!

is it true?

source: my neighbour who was in Dubai for a few months.

Not true. Qatar is one of the safest country in the world.

It is illegal for the sponsor to hold your passport. Your passport is the property of the Government that issued it and you are the legal holder of it at all times. In order to get your residency permit in your passport, you will need to give it to the relevant authorities - usually a couple of weeks - and then it is returned to you.

Safety is how well you look after yourself. I've lived here by myself for years, never felt unsafe - I am careful to keep my doors and windows locked and to be aware of my surroundings/environment so I know if something "isn't quite right". Just as I would in my home country.

I felt safe and secured here...same applies to single women. Kids can play on the streets with no problem. You can even walk with your jewelery on. Always be positive and you will be OK. Welcome to Doha..

In some case, it could be true if you have fallen into a sponsor who is actually a pimp. Examples are sponsors who employs for waitress job at hotels and pubs. The actual job done would be a flesh trade.

thats ridiculous.Qatar is one of the safest country in the world. Obviously there might have been few incidents. But overall its safe here. Probabaly in some cases the company keeps your passport. But it doesnt mean they wont give it back to you if you want.
