Yes, to add further details to sanders:

you need to apply here at Saudi Embassy in Doha for transit visa

(it'd be a 96 hours transit visa, for return journey to Bahrain)

Its almost 90KM to Salwa (Qatar-Saudi Border).

remember, you will need to look for signs like Hafof, Dammam/ Al-Khobar .. Do not turn towards Riyadh/Makkah signs.

1) Cross Saudi/Qatar border.

2) Drive along Highway around 100Kms. You'll find 3-4 petro stations in between sand dunes. There'll be check points around 30Km before Hofuf City Round About.

3) Go straight at the Hofuf City (Airport - ByPass) large round-about. With an newly constructed bridge now. There are three ways to go at this round-about. Don't go right or left. Going right takes you into Hofuf - You WILL get lost there! . Turning left will take you towards the Hofuf Airport.

Move Straight over the bridge towards Dammam / (Riyadh-Dammam Highway)

4) Keep moving 150Kms, where the roads make a T with Riyadh-Dammam Express way Interchange. Be careful to turn right when before the bridge when it says DAMMAM. its also called Route 85.

You just need to drive to Dammam, and you will easily find directions there for AL-Khbar/ Corniche and then to Bahrain.

You need car insurance in Bahrain and pay fee for 3 days entry visa.

Good luck, Enjoy your trip

1. yes you will need a transit visa to Saudi Arabia. you won't need an entry visa to Bahrain though as you can get it at the borders.

2. no need for any car travel insurance, you pay about 100 QR at the Saudi borders and that's it.

3. regarding the road, if you go straight on Salwa road you will reach the saudi borders in about 40-60 minutes depending on how fast you are going( there are speed cameras there).the rest of the road in Saudi can be tracked down on google maps till you get to the bridge between saudi and bahrain.

Good luck
