Emirates in record deal for Boeing 777s
Where does Qatar Airways stand ?
Emirates Airline yesterday booked an US$18 billion (Dh66.1bn) order for 50 Boeing 777 aircraft, a statement of the airline's intent to become the world's leading carrier, despite the challenging economic headwinds.
The booking, the biggest order in the US plane maker's 95-year history, also includes an option for a further 20 of the long-haul jetliners, valued at $8bn.
"This record-breaking dollar value order is another milestone for Emirates and affirms our strategy to expand as a world leading carrier, connecting the world to Dubai and beyond," said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline. He was speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the first day of Dubai Airshow.
Where does Qatar Airways stand ?
AIRBUS said on Monday it was
holding talks with Qatar Airways
chief Akbar al Baker over a longawaited
order for planes by the
Gulf carrier. “We are talking to
Baker about possible deals,” said
John Leahy, Airbus chief operating
officer at the Dubai Airshow.
Why cant other airlines like Air India, Philippines airline, Pakistan airways, Biman of Bangla Desh do as well or better then the above Gulf airlines as a major chunk of the revenues of this gulf airlines comes from this asian routes. In India's case the travel industry has even started talking of Emirates being the national carrier of India rather then Air India because of Emirates huge operatios and flights on this sector
Drsame - sames the case with Emirates/Ittihad if you try to book from their hubs.
BTW, flydubai is the low cost wing of Emirates....
QA stands as the sole qatary airline so has the monopoly of qatar, whereas UAE has at least 4 emirati airlines (emirates, fly dubai, arabia, ittihad) competing to provide better service at lower prices so they care about their customers. just compare the flight fees. to lebanon, QA is willing to fly an empty plane to lebanon in a low season but will never sell the ticket for less than 2.000 QR, whereas emirates will cut 50% of the ticket price to get customers.
bad luck for expat in qatar, unless they do an indirect flight.
Qatar Airways's fleet primarily comprises of Airbus although they recently ordered some B777's and took delivery of the 100th aircraft of their fleet.
Qatar Airways don't have any 747 jumbos. They however have ordered some A380's. That will happen by the time NDIA becomes partially operational by 2012.
Although they ain't as popular as Emirates worldwide, they figure as 5 Star Airline as per Skytrax. The interesting thing about this is that only 7 Airlines from the world figure in this list. Emirates is not one of them.
Compared to its competitors, Qatar Airways fleet is very new and growing astoundingly fast. As of now, Qatar Airways only flies A340 from the 4 Engine category aircraft. With the arrival of the 787 Dreamliner, sales of 4 Engine A380 and B747 may get a beating.
On a personal front, I prefer Emirates to any other in the region cause I just love B777.
