As of 10pm I'm outta here for well earned R&R

Any South Africans out there can give me tips on things to see and do for a week in Capetown?

we went to Sanbona, the place is quite big, but because that we went there in winter time, that's why we didnt see many animals which they mentioned there is a lot in their catalogue. May be it will be different if you go in summer time.

is Cape Town safe for living? Or even Visiting?

Gerrit is 100% right.... the Garden Route is a 'lekker' drive! Really beautiful.... Honestly... you need more than a week in South Africa.

Just remember the gas price is a BIG difference than what you pay here...... really makes people avoid driving all together there!

Oh wow... there is no comparison. In all honesty, Joburg is the armpit of ZA... sorry to any ex-Joburgers - Im too partial to CTown.. Its heavily crime ridden and not a beautiful place (aside from the Jacaranda trees!).

Cape Town can be expensive and it can be cheap. Depends on what you want. You can do the expensive hotels for about $1000 a night or you can get some pretty decent ones (I used to put some guests up at the Courtyard in Observatory.... very central and a brilliant place... for about $150.00 a night incl bfast). Go onto Hotels.com.... you'll see a huge variation there. eating out and even doing touristy stuff is very cheap for a tourist because of the exchange rate so enjoy it..... Here you spend a few hundred QAR for a dinner for 2.... there, you'll spend about $40.00 at a nice restuarant with some wine.

If you can , make time to go to the Garden route. It is about 400km from Cape Town, and starts at Mosselbay. From there you can go To George, Knysna , Wilderness, Sedgefiel, Plettenburhg Bay. It is absolutely stunning there.

Im American but just spent the last 4 years living in Cape Town. now, Im in Doha.... (people keep asking me why I left something like CTown to Doha... well, still working on that one).

Cat.inc hit it right on the head... those are all great places. Depends on what you want to do locally or if you also want to drive a bit. Driving into Montagu is amazing... over the mountains and brilliantly scenic... just up from there is a great Safari lodge called Sanbona (check the web)... pricing would be good right now but summer (their summer) will be expensive. One of th emost amazing safari places to go because of the landscape.

CapeTown CBD (the centre which they call the city bowl) is tons of fun at night. Long Street has a lot of great clubs on it and the dancing is great.

Be sure to hit Camps Bay for a nice Sunday lunch along the beach (its like Miami beach if the weather is good.. all the ferraris, etc. driving by)... the who's who hangs out there... the evenings, much of the same restaurants turn into clubs.

Don't forget Stellenbosch for wine... do the wine route thing.... its fun.

Stay safe, lock doors, don't walk around at night alone, etc. The worst thing about ZA is the crime... if the crime wouldn't be there.. it would be Eden.

Have fun!!!!

Just back from Cape Town last month, it was an amazing trip there. Luckly, i visited most of the places which Cat.inc recommended, only missed No.5,6,8. Love it a lot, hopefully will go in Dec. again, and will visit all the recommended places in my next trip.

I have a recipe for biltong! Problem is getting the condiments we would need!

We can order a biltong maker from a SA guy I know in Belgium and voila, we could be munching in hours!

As for being scared to go to SA, don't be, just stay in a good area, go where there's a lot of light and enojy the beauty!

Cape Town is gorgeous!

Long lazy days, hopefully not too cold, and some great restaurants and views

As mentioned above these are most of the best places, but it depends what you enjoy too!

Table mountain is a must! V and A waterfront is very pleasant, I also love Hout bay harbour, the wine farms in Stellenbosch, Camps bay beaches and just cruising around watching how the rich live!

Have a wonderful break!

Thanks for all your advice and input and offers!

Best regards

Paul
