Al-Thani Award for Photography 2008

Hello, happy new year to you all!

I am translating this for non-Greek speakers.

I am from Crete (Greece) and about 2-3 months ago I won an award in the photographic competition "The Al-Thani Award for Photography 2008" and I have been invited in Doha for about 5 days for the award ceremony. I will be staying at the Sheraton Hotel. My question is how much money would it be wise to have for these 5 days in Qatar for general expenses like, food and drinks, sightseeing, etc...

I would also like to know the most important sights (preferably with a photographic interest) that I could visit. I have found some of them by looking around on the internet, but I'm sure indigenous people will be of help. One last question, what is the weather over there at this time of year, will I be able to go for a swim? :)

Anyway, I thank you in advance for all the help!

N

P.S. Are there any facts I should know about Qatar, something to be careful for?

Agree with recommendations on dunes, Al Zubara Fort, souq waqif, the stuff that's unique to Qatar. As mentioned, sunsets are kind of yellow due to the dust. Might spot a herd of camels along the road.

Congratulations...you would like Qatar...for Photo you've got to go to the dessert ...sand dunes, sunset. I am in Malta now otherwise, would love to meet you. We are planning to visit crete, cyprus and greece this year.

Islamic arts museum is a must... PM if you need anything.

Sheraton is a nice hotel, has a lovely restaurant on the top floor and you will have great views while eating...could have wine and they have champagne brunch on Fridays ...that's cool you know in place where you can't get drinks everywhere. Just hotels and few bars.

Money - depends where and what you like to eat. I'd say for your stay around $400-$500 is enough.

If you got a deal with me ...Sight seeing for you is free, provided you answer few questions of mine, coz I'm learning photgraphy, it would be nice to take you out show places and learn photography.

So if its fine, I'll PM you my email and contact. hope that helps

and ya as for the weather... dress warm kinda cold outside and this time around swimming no ways.. way too cold for that.
