Varghese awards function tomorrow
Former chief minister of the southern Indian state of Kerala Oommen Chandy will deliver the keynote address at a function to be held in memory of former president of Indian Cultural Centre, K C Varghese tomorrow.
The function will be held at the Indian Cultural
Centre.
Chandy, who is currently an opposition leader, will arrive tonight. Senior Congress legislator K C Joseph is accompanying him.
Joseph is the elder brother of Varghese, who died in May 2006. Varghese was the founder of Doha expatriate forum Indian Cultural and Arts Society (Incas).
At the function, Chandy will give away two awards instituted in memory of Varghese. The recipients of the latest edition of the awards are Sharjah-based editor of The Gulf Today P V Vivekanand, and Doha entrepreneur Mohamed Easa. Easa, general manager of Ali International Trading, has been chosen for his contribution to welfare of the poor from the Indian community. The function is organised by K C Varghese
Foundation.
Joseph will make the remembrance speech, said an office-bearer of the foundation. Indian Ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa and chairman of the foundation C K Menon will attend the function.
Tomorrow, Chandy and Joseph will visit the Inter-Denomination Church Complex, at Mesaimeer.
Incas president K K Usman said the forum would make arrangements for people to meet Chandy and hand over their representations.
