KILIMANOOR: Noted guitarist Prakash Krishnan (36) of Muttada, was killed when the van in which the ganamela troupe were travelling overturned and fell into a lake after hitting an electric post.

Munch Star Singer fame Athira Murali too was in the van. The incident happened when the troupe was returning back after a ganamela.Local sources said that the van lost control and fell into a pond after hitting an electric post. The van barrel-rolled several times before settling down. A nearby shop was also damaged in the impact of the collision.

The condition of four out of the twelve injured including Athira Murali’s mother Jessy is stated to be serious. They have been admitted at the Gokulam Medical College Hospital in Venjaramoodu. Athira Murali escaped without any injuries.

The incident happened early this morning at 4.45 am on the MC Road in Kilimanoor when the troupe was returning to the capital city after a ganamela at Kattappara Mahadeva Temple in Thiruvalla.

Prakash Krishnan, who was the lead guitarist of Malayalam band "The Big Indian Band", did his four-year diploma in the Thiruvananthapuram music college with veena as his subject. He played the guitar in many of the playback singers' programmes, with Chitra, M. G. Sreekumar and also M. Jayachandran.

There are two versions regarding the cause of the accident; One is that the driver of the van dozed off and the other is that he lost control of the vehicle while trying to give way to a bus which came in the opposite direction.

Prakash Krishnan, who was a resident of Sasthamangalam, is survived by wife Praseela and two children, Sanker Krishna and Giri. Prakash, who hailed from a family with musical background, was a member of Trivandrum Springs, a musical troupe
