Not to be an optimistic fool
But life's not always harsh and cruel
Sometimes everything makes sense
And I'm overcome by peace immense

Sometimes when I'm driving through the night
And the weather's cool and the wind's just right
I can't help but flash a smile
Forget my troubles with each passing mile

Even sometimes when the weather's bad
And it's raining like it's never had
And roars of thunder storm aloud
I'm an optimist beneath a cloud

But it's hard for me to feel that way
As my faith weakens every day
I'm changing into something new
When I just want to be an optimistic fool
