Dawat-e-Islami beats KKF in zakat collection
* Karachi paid 31% more fitrana, zakat this Eid
* Dawat-e-Islami collected Rs 44.5 million out of the total Rs 83.51 million

KARACHI: Not only was there a 31.5 percent increase in the fitra and zakat collected from Karachi this Eid but the Dawat-e-Islami beat the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) of the MQM in collecting the most funds.
Last year, Rs 63.5 million was collected in fitra and zakat from Karachi and this figure went up to Rs 83.51 million this year. The increase is partly attributable to the increase in the rate. Last year, ulema increased the amount to be paid as fitra from Rs 35 to Rs 45 per person, which was further increased to Rs 55 per person this year. Banned organisations also collected fitra, in which the Jamatud Dawa and the Tanzeemul Furqan collected the highest amounts.
According to sources at the Dawat-e-Islami, the organisation collected Rs 44.5 million on Eidul Fitr from all parts of Karachi. The KKF collected Rs 35.6 million, the Al Khidmat foundation of the Jamaat-e-Islami collected Rs 0.4 million and the Sunni Tehrik’s Ahle Sunnat Khidmat Committee collected Rs 1.275 million.
Among the banned organisations, the Jamatud Dawa collected Rs 915,000 and the Tanzeemul Furqan collected Rs 820,000. The previous year, the KKF collected the greatest amount Rs 30 million, followed by the Dawat-e-Islami at Rs 22.5 million and the others at a combined Rs 11 million.
