Qatar aid for Pak Kashmir earthquake areas hailed
PAKISTANI Kashmir Minister for Public Works and Housing Sardar Mohamed Yaqoob Khan has thanked Qatar for its generous help in reconstruction and rehabilitation projects following the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Talking to Gulf Times during his recent visit to Qatar, Khan praised the government and people of Qatar for their contribution, especially in the fields of health and education.
He said the development and rehabilitation projects were being executed in a transparent manner. “Some countries, including Qatar, are implementing their projects directly and their ambassadors are looking after the development works.”
Khan appealed to philanthropists to adopt children orphaned in the earthquake.
Khan said Muzzafarabad, Bagh and Rawala Kot, the three major towns which were badly damaged, would be rebuilt as modern cities under a Rs50bn master plan.
Muzzafarabad had been allotted Rs25bn, Bagh Rs15bn and Rawala Kot Rs9 bn. “The new cities will have the most modern facilities and infrastructure,” Khan said.
Khan was on a five-day private visit to Qatar during which he attended a Kashmir Day function as chief guest. – RC
