PAKISTANI Ambassador Mohamed Asghar Afridi opened a two-day cultural fiesta, dubbed ‘A Glimpse of Festivals in Pakistan’, at the Pak Shama School and College (PSS) in Wakrah on Thursday.
Administrative Inspector at the Ministry of Education Masoud A Mubarak attended the event as guest of honour. School’s president M A Shahid, school officials, Pakistani diplomats, heads of socio-cultural forums and prominent community members were present.
In her welcome speech, Principal Nabila Kaukab appreciated the efforts made by teachers and students for holding of the event.
A three-hour variety programme depicting the tradition of Pakistani festivals was well received by the audience.
A group of KG students sang an English poem. Skits, songs and traditional dances showcasing provincial art and cultural events like Eid, Bassant and Baisakhi were presented by the senior students.
Stalls offered traditional Pakistani dishes. There were indoor games.
PSS president Shahid thanked Afridi for patronising healthy activities and hailed efforts of the staff and students for organizing the event.
Afridi lauded the school’s contribution to the Pakistani community and hoped collective efforts of Pakistani institutions would make the mega event to mark the Pakistan Day a huge success.
Co-ordinated by Mohammad Rafique, the programme was jointly compered by English teacher Muzzafer Hussain and student representatives Osama Tariq and Nabila Badar. – RC
