Dr Israr passes away (The News Pakistan)
Religious scholar and Ameer of Tanzim-e-Islami Pakistan Dr Israr Ahmed passed away after a protracted illness on Wednesday.
He was laid to rest in the Model Town graveyard.
Thousands of people from all walks of life, including PML-N (Punjab president) Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, JI leader Liaqut Baloch and ex-Lahore District Nazim Mian Amir Mehmood attended his funeral.
Dr Israr has left behind four sons, five daughters and a widow.
He wrote nearly 60 books on Islam and was associated with different religious foundations in the country and abroad. Dr Israr was born in 1932 and did his FSc from the then Government College, Lahore, MBBS from King Edward Medical College, Lahore, and MA Islamiyat from the Karachi University with distinction.
He also remained associated with Jamat-e-Islami for some years.
He wrote ‘Islamic Renaissance: The Real Task Ahead’ in 1967. Dr Israr founded the Tanzeem-e-Islami in 1975 and also launched Tehreek-e-Khilafat in early 1990s.
In 1971, he abandoned his medical practice and devoted himself to the Islamic revival.
Agencies add: President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over the death of Dr Israr, saying Dr Israr’s death was a huge loss for the country.
Asif offered condolences over his demise and prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant fortitude to the members of the bereaved family.
Chairman Senate Farooq H. Naek, Deputy Chairman Senate Jan Muhammad Jamali, Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza, Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi, Leader of the House in Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Wasim Sajjad and leaders of the UK chapter of the PPP also expressed their grief over the demise of the renowned religious scholar.
Senator Sajid Mir, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hassan and Qazi Hussain Ahmed also attended the funeral.
