Qatar Calendar House announces May 2 to be the first day of Eid-al-Fitr
According to reliable astronomical calculations done by scientists, Monday, May 2, 2022 AD, will be the start of the month of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al-Fitr for this year, while Sunday, May 1, 2022 AD, will be the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, 1443 AH.
The legal decision on the start of the month of Shawwal for this year remains under the authority of the Crescent Sighting Committee at the State of Qatar's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
Engineer Faisal Al-Ansari, Executive Director of the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ansari Complex, stated that the crescent of the month of Shawwal for the year 1443 AH will be born on the evening of Saturday, April 30, 2022 AD (the day of sighting), at 11:29 p.m. Doha local time, 8:29 p.m. Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
He further went on to say that seeing the crescent of the month of Shawwal in the sky of the State of Qatar and other Arab and Islamic nations on the evening of Saturday, April 30, 2022 AD is impossible because the crescent of the month of Shawwal would not have been born at sunset on the day of sighting.
It should kept in mind that the beginning and end of the Hijri months are determined by the movement of the moon in its orbit around the earth, whereas the beginning and end of the Gregorian months are determined by the movement of the earth in its orbit around the sun.
