Underground garbage containers project at Doha Corniche

Doha is a city that prides itself on its cleanliness. You can almost never spot garbage on its streets even if you look hard for it.

One of the reasons for this is the robust team of efficient garbage collection teams that work around the clock.

Now, a new pilot project, being tried out at the Doha Corniche, is looking to make the process of garbage collection even more efficient.

As part of the experimental project, a number of underground garbage bins have been placed along the Doha Corniche.

It is an environment-friendly project. The sealed system traps foul smell within itself. Once sealed, it will be impossible for cats to go inside. With its huge capacity to hold waste, it is expected to make garbage collection much simpler in the evenings.

If successful, plans are afoot to place it on commercial streets, at multi-storey buildings, towers, souqs and shopping malls areas.
