Festivals are an immense part of Indian. We celebrate lots of festivals and the maximum in numbers around eh world. Each and every festival in the country is observed with full zeal and enthusiasm. Though each and every festival is based on a mythological story, but the relevance of the stories makes us to believe on it much more. Similarly, one of the most celebrated festivals in Hindus is Raksha Bandhan; it is the day when sisters tie rakhi thread around her brother’s cuff.
There are many mythological behind the celebration of the festival. Yamuna the sister of yamraj is said to tie the first rakhi. She tied a protection thread against her brother’s arm and as a result of that her brother is blessed with eternity. Bhavisya puran says that Sachi the wife of lord Indra tied Raksha sutra on her husband’s arm when she was advised to do so by guru brihaspati.
In another mythological belief sea god Varuna is worshiped with rakhi and offered coconut for the prosperity and wealth it brings to fishermen life. That is why the festival is also called as Nariyal Purnima.
