Festivals are an immense part of Indian. We celebrate lots of festivals and the maximum in numbers around eh world. Each and every festival in the country is observed with full zeal and enthusiasm. The best part of the celebration is irrespective of our cast and creed; we celebrate and respect each and every festival that is observed in the country.

We have so many interesting stories about our festivals that it drives us much closer to our culture and traditions. These stories develops believes and sometimes there is a desire to know about the existence of our festivals.

Though each and every festival is based on a mythological story, but the relevance of the stories makes us to believe on it much more. Similarly, one of the most celebrated festivals in Hindus is Raksha Bandhan; it is the day when sisters tie rakhi thread around her brother’s cuff.

There are many mythological behind the celebration of the festival. Yamuna the sister of yamraj is said to tie the first rakhi. She tied a protection thread against her brother’s arm and as a result of that her brother is blessed with eternity. Bhavisya puran says that Sachi the wife of lord Indra tied Raksha sutra on her husband’s arm when she was advised to do so by guru brihaspati.

In another mythological belief sea god Varuna is worshiped with rakhi and offered coconut for the prosperity and wealth it brings to fishermen life. That is why the festival is also called as Nariyal Purnima.

Since you yourself have accepted that your societies and festivals are based on myth, why don't you shun them and accept Islam where there is no such thing as myth. You will enjoy life better here by following the right path, and then again in heaven.
