I read this report in Gulf News last night, but cant find it on their website anymore!

Most of the websites are not showing hijra dates currently, maybe they want to wait one more evening to see the moon.

I know it can be a tad inconvenient and annoying not being able to pin dates down in advance, but it is great that countries will still make decisions based on something older and more powerful than a piece of paper. Maybe everywhere else has lost the true purpose and meaning of these and other religious events, making them fit into a calendar or a preset pattern. I recall discussions about Easter holidays being fixed as it messed up school term dates.

I can't find any news report elsewhere that Saudi has indeed announced today to be the first of Dhul Hijjah. In fact everywhere, including the Saudi Gazette, is saying: Tuesaday 16th October, 2012=30th dhul Qi'dah 1433 AH. smh!!
