my boss will kick my as- coz i told him after seeing this thread and seeing gulfnews page that eid is confirmed on Thursday so if i tell him again that it was a rumor then he'll kill me
You are right Fathima.. But this announcement was posted in one of the leading newpaper Gulfnews. http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/thursday-the-first-day-of-eid-al-adha-1.1089840
Lets see what announcements we get here in Qatar. My tickets were already booked until monday considering /thinking Eid might fall over the weekend.
I know it can be a tad inconvenient and annoying not being able to pin dates down in advance, but it is great that countries will still make decisions based on something older and more powerful than a piece of paper. Maybe everywhere else has lost the true purpose and meaning of these and other religious events, making them fit into a calendar or a preset pattern. I recall discussions about Easter holidays being fixed as it messed up school term dates.
I can't find any news report elsewhere that Saudi has indeed announced today to be the first of Dhul Hijjah. In fact everywhere, including the Saudi Gazette, is saying: Tuesaday 16th October, 2012=30th dhul Qi'dah 1433 AH. smh!!

They should apologize in public for this misleading news... I think many of traveller would have booked their tickets accordingly.
yeah maybe they wanted to be the 1st to break the news, but looks like they were a bit too fast!!
Gulf News would have received phone calls from various levels since they posted that fake news and the guy who posted the news would have been moved.

All dailies (English and Arabic) from Saudi has marked today as 30th Dul Qaedah and how did Gulf News get that particular news?
drsajid, I should say sorry to you as Hijri calendar does not have a month with 31 days.
Strange indeed..not to mention misleading!
My mobile shows that today is 30th Dhul-Qadah. Eid will be on Friday insha allah,
Today is 30th Zul Qadah.. so it means Arafat will be on Thursday confirmed.
