Where can I buy a phone card for my house maid?

Hello all,

My husband and I recently hired an Indonesian house maid. I would like to buy her a phone card, or however that works so she can call her son back home. I'm not sure how to go about this. I have a prepaid cell phone, but don't keep many minutes on it and only use to have with me for going out. My husband has a cell phone he pays for monthly, but he probably uses all the minutes on that. We have a house phone. I use skype, $6 USD per month for unlimited calls to the US. I am very ignorant of other ways to go about this.

So I'd like to have some method anyways of her being able to call home. I'm just not sure exactly which method is best. Should I get her her own sim card that she puts in my phone? That would be fine, but I think she may like some privacy when she talks and if she is tied to my phone she can only call when I am home. I believe we have an extra cell phone around she could use for now. Set up something on the computer through skype or another provider? Whenever I have used a phone card before it is like a credit card. I dial a number just for that phone card, and then the number I am calling. Could I get something like that to use for the house phone?

Also, I am unclear on what exactly I am supposed to provide for her. I take her to the store with me and asks if she wants anything, but she always says no. Last time I just bought her the same things I use myself, and hope she will become less shy if there's something in particular she wants or needs. Just keep a well stocked cabinet of personal care products and tell her to take what she needs? What about clothes? Linens are already covered. She says no when I ask her if there is any particular food she wants. There is nothing in the home she can't eat or cook except if I buy something specifically for company, and then we don't eat it either. I certainly wouldn't mind trying some Indonesian food. I'm pregnant and like pretty much all food all the time! Should I just hope she becomes less shy over time and is willing to speak up a bit more? She's a very nice lady who does a good job, and I'm a strong believer in employers being good to their employees.

I asked her if she wanted to call home, and that did seem to break the ice. I just had her use Skype, but that was kind of pricey so when my husband comes home we'll figure out something a little more permanent.

Install actionvoip in your computer. its a lot cheaper than what the mobile service providers are charging. it is somewhat similar to skype but its not unlimited.

May be by asking her whether to make a phone call to her son will break the ice.

Skype is cheaper I think for making calls to Indonesia or by Vodafone is another option.

God bless you for being a nice employer

Not a good idea to buy in your name. Buy a QTEL Prepaid sim under your maids name by going to any of the qtel outlets which a spread over all the malls here.

You can try DAWLI CARD it is available in the supermarkets but im not certain if the service is also available for indonesia but just try to ask when you will buy.

other option why not give her QTEL or VODAFONE sim card you can apply under your name then let her use the sim.
