Different cultures

Here in Qatar the culture is different from the west and people thought that I am imposing every foriegnier to dress or be like a typical Qatari person, I will say no but you have to show some respect to the culture here.
It is not a shame to take the good things from the west, but it is also not necessary to take the bad.
I do not care about how the west lives, I care about the way Qatari people live here.
Off course I do not like to see a Qatari guy hanging out drinking wines and alcohols and I will not say do not sell alcohol or wine because we are adults and some of us know what is good and what is bad.
Opening to the outside world will bring good and bad things and we should accept this but at the same time it is my rule as a Qatari to say this is good and this is bad.
Let us be civilised and have good arguments, as they say if there is water in the cup then the water will come out from the cup if we play with the cup little bit, the same thing is applicable for the people, if a certain person is having good values then his speech will be good and vice versa if he has bad values.

khalid, your country has been opened to different nations which means you are now viewing different cultures on your door-step. I like Some of your cultures and dislike others, as you may feel too.

The onslaught of different cultures to yours may be alarming you hence the posts...i understand.

we all have wishes to preserve our native ones but this modernization is sweeping like hurricane. Just be strong and hold your peace. What matters is we know what's right and wrong. Take the good ones and burry the bad

...listen to the sound of silence....

The culture is made initially long time ago maybe million years ago, some of these culture are good and some are bad.

Culture for me is a general word which can be said to different things such as generousity and hospitality.

Islam came and told us what is good and what is bad and therfore we were asked to protect the good culture.

What will protect you is your belief and faith either you are christian or Muslim.

The culture is every one responsibility, and I am sure 100 % the western have some good cultures which they must protect.

I hope we all have a common respect points in which it Respects Islam and Christianity.

Qatars culture takes its roots from Islam and as you know Islam came before more than 1400 years.

The culture is the way how people used to live and think.

I give you a small example before Islam there were bad habbits like burrying the new born if the new born was girl, Islam came and prohobitted this habbit.

Islam tells you to be open minded and search for knowledge and take care of your family and friends and share the feelings, that is for example if one muslim had a bad situation like he lost some one close, then you must feel sorry towards him.

I will stop here for the points because this will be a big topic.

Islam also tells us to be always good to Muslim and non Muslim people.

Please explain to me what Qatari culture is? Qatar is a very young country and all countries culture evolves over time. In my country the UK, what was happening in 1700s would be unrecognisable for everyone today and the same goes for all areas of the world. (Well except for some remote tribes in various jungles in the world who are still hunter gatherers.

No I'm not Qatari. But I do come from an immigrant nation. All of my neighbours home practice different culture and seem to have no problems maintaining them even though not everyone else is doing the same thing. I really don't see how someone not doing what you want them to affects your culture. If your culture doesn't believe in saunaing in the nude, then don't do it and teach your children not to do it, but how does my doing it effect you? I'm not telling you to get naked, I'm not telling you to tell your children to get naked. I maintain my culture, you maintain yours.

And it seems for me that you do not want to hold the values of Qatar and its culture and Qatari people.

It seems to me that you are promoting Qatar to become a western country, please defend your points and tell me how can we maintain our culture if we allow those who do not respect us do what ever they want in our country.

If Qataries want they can have their own Gym at home. What is the big deal Khaled? what goes on there has little impact over locals. Only those people go there who are comfortable with what warrants there. I think this is not a major issue. Its made so because the westerners didn't get for long something to argue...

Respect is about realizing that others don't think the same as you and not forcing your opinions and your lifestyle on others, and they, in turn, not doing the same to you. If you don't like what they're doing look the other way, and they should show you the same respect.

People have different concepts of good and bad. What's good to you is bad to others, what's bad to you is good to others. You either learn to accept others or spend your life whining and complaining. I think it's obvious which one you've chosen.
