Do I have to wear scarf in the airport in Riyadh?
I'm traveling back home through Riyadh this year (don't ask why it's such a strange route--long story).
If I am never leaving the airport would I still be required to cover my head with a scarf? I'm assuming the answer is yes.
Only reply if you have ACTUALLY been to the Riyadh airport and know a real answer. Guesses are not so helpful. Thanks!

I have lived in Riyadh and my family was there. It is not necessary to wear scarf or abbaya until you exit from the airport till you reach your home. Inside the airport you are free to wear anything but advise not to wear that exposes you.(beware)
Having travelled trough Riyadh many times I can tell you:
No Scarf, No Abaya are required in the gate area.
All non-muslim women take great relief in removing their outer garments there.
Like aamoneim told, why dont u try to wear , may this is a good chance, one think its not harmful, its really helping you to save from others, specially this world.
if i go to Riyad as a family guest of visit visa 14 days,, still I have to wear an abaya + scarf, when I go out of the airport ?
Thanks galloper!
I checked my ticket and I only have a 55 minute layover so I'm assuming I'm not leaving the plane and don't have to worry about it now. Hopefully there won't be any delays/mechanical problems! I would hate to be caught by the religious police in Saudi. Not the way to start a vacation. I just gave away my last abaya and scarf and don't really want to go out and buy another one just for this purpose.
deedee: are you going to be in transit in the airport? (meaning you will leave the airplane) or you will be in the plane waiting?
If your stop/transit in Riyadh is less than 1 hr it means you will not leave the airplane then there is no need for scarf/abaaya.
So far and as to my knowledge and understanding, if you are descending in Riyadh airport you will be required to wear an abaaya but not the scarf.
On the other hand and to be absolutely assured on what to do I would suggest you to go to your airliner and ask them about the proper "dress code/etiquette" in this stop.
Regards...have a great day!!
