As per the islamic rules, islam permitted a person to marry four women but it is not encouraged to anyone. They usually divide the days and other things between the wives. The person is recommended to marry only one because it is very difficult to do the justice between even two wives, then think about 4 wives.

Wow!, great answers from you guys. It is worth asking question wherein differences in religion is a big factor to understand one's point of view. I highly respect your insights and very satisfied with the answers. For me it's better to be wise and wide to know the feeling of your wives to avoid jealousy and misunderstanding. Try to give a quality time with them even it's not 24/7.

"Old China ever had polygamy system, that's how our movies/series still have so many materials to show how the wivies plot against others to death."

Well its not that old! My wife is Chinese and her grandfather had two wifes. What I can say is that is does necessarily complicate things are there can be anamosity between the half brothers and sisters. Also i t can create problems for inheritance as it "dilutes" the estate of the father/husband - assuming that he has mulitple children by his different wifes.

Also - re the China example - I understand it was usually only the very rich that would take more then one wife.

My question is - as put to me by my wife when I jokingly raised the idea - "well you can have 4 wifes if I can have 4 husbands". Lol - so why not then? Why can a wife not take 4 husbands?

This is impossible and should not be attempted.

Well,I find the whole idea of polygamy as lustful. There can be only one soul mate for a person. How can a man be just and equal to 4 other people in his life? The idea is hypocrite. The institution of marriage is reduced to institution of management.Perhaps when concieved, the practice of keeping many wives, concubines and slaves was widely prevelant in Arabs.Restricting that to 4 was a good start but it should be stopped now.

In such system,Women are reduced to the objects of desire and I would rate men who are propaganist of polygamy as MCP(male chauvinist pigs.

P.S.The practice is till mostly in arabs and is definately not widely parcticed by other muslims in other parts of the world.

It is clearly mention in Quran that | if you can not do justice then do one marriage | more than one marriage is just an option.

If you see the world current ratio of male vs. female you would find that there are more males than females. Just take a recent example of India where only in Punjab (a province) female birth ratio is 3:10 due to gender selection technique, in this technique parents during pregnancy got to detect the gender of their kid and abort it if the baby is female.

Taking more examples like in war, in road accidents, etc the number of male casualties are much higher than female. Such number left females alone without having a partner and it is against human rights in fact natural rights that a woman lives without having a legal option to fulfill here basic physiological needs. In cases it is become imperative that woman go for illegitimate acts which are not only taboo in all religion but also damage the norms of decent society.

At last what is better woman with out husband doing immoral acts or woman without husband go and become a second wife.

Benefit of getting married is not only limited to physiological needs but in most of the cases women after husband does not have courage or capability to earn for herself as well as for her children.

If affordable and manageable my man which man can do in cases it is advisable to go for second marriage than to left the widowed or divorcee woman alone in society.

I think to complete a marriage successfully he has to concentrate on one wife and the children from that marriage.

Never mind the other wives how can he give all the children from each of his marriages the same kind of attention - no way.

What will he say to them let's have a kids party and introduce all the kids together, then say hey this is you Mum, and this is you second Mum and this is your third Mum and we all live happily ever after.

I know of one man he has four wives and 20 kids and can't even support them so what will they all do - move in together?????

Islam allows a man to marry as many as four wives provided he feels capable of being just among his wives. Allaah Says (which means): {…then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one….}[Quran 4:3].

So the husband must deal justly with them regarding expenditure and time allotted to each of them.

In fact, putting two wives in the same house can cause jealousy and hatred between them and it is also a breaking of the promise which should have been fulfilled.

Hadith that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "When a husband has two wives and does not act justly between them, he will come the Day of Judgment with a side of his body hanging down" .

Anyone who lacks the assurance that he will be able to fulfill all these obligations with justice and equality is prohibited by Allah Almighty from marrying more than one woman, for Allah says: "But if you fear that you will not be able to do justice (among them), then (marry) only one..." (An-Nisa': 3)

And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Anyone who has two wives and does not treat them equally will come on the Day of Resurrection dragging one part of his body which will be hanging down."

It is near to imposible,

Yet it is an excepted act,

and more dignified then having a mistress..

some circumstnces might be involved, and dignity and pride gained...

If it was just for lust, then there will be for sure no rightness to it...

to marry to 2 women should be very hard. not only time, I think every single thing should be divided, not that equal, but fairly and wisely. couz each wife has a different need one and another. These arrangement of understanding should come from everyone involved, including parents and families. would be better that women who are involved are so wise also, should know these situation before she got married. Complicated? yes it is. So unless you are become wise enough, better not think to have, or become another yet...

well they usually divide the days between the wives but let me specify that though islam has permitted four wives it has not encouraged it!infact in islam u are recommended to marry only one because it is next to impossible to do justice between two or more wives.
