Hi,

Doha is going to cost a lot when you turn up - but your company should help you out. Not sure if Marhaba is available where you are - but get one as soon as you can.

Get an international driving licence

phone - QR 200 connection, QR33 pm

Broadband -200 - 400pm

Taxi's - Impossible to get (Search Karwa on this site) but relatively safe if they are the official ones

TV - lots of Arabic not surprising - but we have a English speaking package plus lots of free Italian channels - but there are more to choose from.

Appliances can be cheap - but all come with 2 pin plugs so you will need a lot of adapters to fit the UK power sockets - but these are about QR3 each. The cost of the appliances differ depending on quality and shop. Carrefour has supplied most of ours and their service is pretty good.

Most of all bring a lot of patience and be prepared to be pushy. Learn some basic arabic greetings. This helps a lot.

Any idea of which part of Doha you will be living in??

If you are interested in making friends in Doha why don't you buy yourself a copy of Marhaba it costs QR 20 and you will find plenty of groups to join and things to do there.

I'm coming over on Oct 30th.. Just wondering what to expect?

Things like..Where can we go to buy groceries?

Is there any job agency that I can register my husband to? (I've got a job there, looking for my husband's now)

What is the electrical appliances price range? say, rice cooker, toster, kettle, TV?

How much do i have to expect on subscribing to a new telephone line?

Is it safe to travel by taxi to anywhere?

What's on their TV? do they have sattelite tv broadcaster?

Dude, half of us know our way in Doha, and the other half want to learn about Doha.

Maybe you want to be a bit more specific?
