S.O.S from Saudi Arabia
By MarcoNandoz-01 •
Looks like crime is becoming the order of the day in Saudi Arabia.
This is According to recent annual crime stats presented by Arab News. According to the report, crime in the city of Jeddah (Saudi’s commercial city), has gone up by an astounding 61% while Riyadh (The Capital of the country) suffered a 16.4% climb.
There were 78,737 serious crimes recorded in Saudi Arabia last year (from murder to drug trafficking domestic violence and armed robbery) with an increase of 8,335 crimes over the previous year.
So has Saudi’s strict religious laws been any good as deterrent to the rising numbers of home-grown crime?

You lost me. What is making sense ?

I wonder how many of the beheadings are foreigners vs. citizens. The foreign executions seem to get the most attention by far.
Fubar: Saudi Arabia beheading nearly two people per week this year.
Reported by Amnesty International. For the year (2013)

yr right BG fake ID in the name of muslim person to degrade the religion
saladinyusuf dont u talk like QDC aka LP
saudi has lot of serious crimes and domestic violence against camels and falcons as well HR are in search for talented expats in QL site
Dozens of rape cases including minor victims have been booked in India even after India has legislated much harsher punishment for rape.
Sharia is still the best to deter crimes.
To the OP--and this statistic doesn't even record all of the terrible domestic violence and human rights abuses of foreign labourers that goes on in KSA.
Lol! It was probably written by a western journalist!! Spreading more lies about Saudi!
In fact, this whole thread is probably fake news, and there is no crime in Saudi at all.
yr right LP fake news irrelevant to QL and qatar posted by OP
agree with LP
Reminds me of this story from last year, including:
"Later on Tuesday, SPA quoted a third statement saying that Sa’ad Al Mansuri, a Saudi, was beheaded in the central city of Buraida after he was convicted of shooting dead a fellow citizen, Munif Al Maqati, with a machinegun “following a dispute between the two”."
At least he wasn't a teen.

LP first decide they don't GO,
they drive in a Land Cruiser!
teens dont go shooting carrying automatic rifle in saudi or rob u holding a knife or at gun point so i consider saudi less dangerous
Good point, Brit. But the population of Saudi Arabia is less than 10% of the USA.
So doesn't that make Saudi even more dangerous, even accounting for states that don't have the death penalty?
So anyway, getting back to the point...
Saudi Arabia didn't invade Bahrain. And how do we know that? Because the USA said it didn't.
So either we believe the big nasty evil USA, in which case Saudi was doing the Bahrainis a favor by popping in for a visit, or we assume, as usual, that the USA is evil and can't be trusted and everything they say is wrong, in which case Saudi Arabia did invade Bahrain.
Your comparison is erroneous , since not all states have the death penalty.
with guns n drone attack LP
so crime in america in saudi in syria in mongolia in china in pakistan in india in bagladesh in romania in philippines whats the point ? u gona stop it
LP physics n maths is different
Twice as many people, approx, are executed in Saudi each year for crimes than the USA.
Does that make Saudi safer, since their punishments are tougher, or more dangerous, since it indicates that there is so much criminal activity?
did they invade loot n kill millions
is Bahrain invaded ?
saudi is much better does not go invading others property looting them n killing that countries civilians in the name of democracy
Even in Saudi, hands are not cut off for first offence.
In addition, most of the crimes are committed by expats and not Saudis.
People who claim that they are behind World peace are ranking top in the list of crime rates.
http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-top-ten/countries-with-highest-reported-crime-rates.html
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_tot_cri-crime-total-crimes
be the penalties, crime will be exist and become manifest as long as criminals and potential criminals know they can or may succeed in beating the system. For crimes to cease one needs to apply laws fairly and justly, regardless of who be the wrongdoer. I recall this story of how the Prophet was asked to show mercy on this certain criminal accused of robbery because she was of an influential family. To which he replied: "O people, those who have gone before you were destroyed, because if any one of high rank committed theft amongst them, they spared him; and it anyone of low rank committed theft, they inflicted the prescribed punishment upon him. By Allah, if Fatima, daughter of Muhammad, were to steal, I would have her hand cut off"
Can we say that is the case in any country today? No...hence crimes flourish among those confident that they will somehow get away.
But I also agree that better reporting is another reason why occurring crimes are becoming known today.
Yesterday as a part of social service we went to a labour camp where 100 labours were not paid for 5 months most of them have their ID expired in 2011 and they approach their authorities for help...but they have been asked to bring their own tickets if they want to fly back home..how can they bring tickets if they dont get paid.
No country at the moment is free from crimes and socio_economic problems...
Crime rates here in qatar was never determined but duh..no such country free of crimes.
Laws are excellent & appropriately designed to tackle crimes ...The actual problem is with their political system which is not what they claim it to be...
Yes yr right LLR lot of expatriates working in gulf shud mind his own business rather than to discuss on saudi arabia shame on them for eating from one plate and making holes on same plate
how many saladin u must b knowing
LLR u mean western n asian expats shame on them
Kareena74: Hence this question arises:
Has Saudi’s strict religious laws been any good as deterrent to the rising numbers of home-grown crime?
"Crime in Saudi Arabia is relatively low when compared to some developed nations, but may be increasing due to higher levels of foreign workers and higher levels of unemployment among Saudi residents."
— John Wilson, on the crime situation in Saudi Arabia, in the book International Security and the United States: An Encyclopedia
That people actually have the guts to steal in Saudi when they know that if they caught, they would be have their hands cut off.. Shariah law is the worst punihsment posssible and even with that, the crime rates have gone up it means something seriously wrong with Saudi Arabia..
Who said I'm worried? I just commented that it's probably not a rise in crime, rather accurate reporting.
MN amd mimi r u going for umrah worried about crime rate in saudi arabia
LP zero crime in ur country ?
An increase of this kind of criminality indicates a serious failure on the part of the Saudi govt in dealing with its internal massive problems.
4get saudi let each qler post his own country crime reports
Crime is on the rise, but I agree that the figures quoted are due to better and accurate reporting.
Neither do I, and 61% is a crazy rise!
MM: You're right ,I don’t recall seeing similar figures published in the past.
Are crimes really on the rise, or are they finally doing accurate reporting?
