S.O.S from Saudi Arabia

S.O.S from Saudi Arabia

Looks like crime is becoming the order of the day in Saudi Arabia.

This is According to recent annual crime stats presented by Arab News. According to the report, crime in the city of Jeddah (Saudi’s commercial city), has gone up by an astounding 61% while Riyadh (The Capital of the country) suffered a 16.4% climb.

There were 78,737 serious crimes recorded in Saudi Arabia last year (from murder to drug trafficking domestic violence and armed robbery) with an increase of 8,335 crimes over the previous year.

So has Saudi’s strict religious laws been any good as deterrent to the rising numbers of home-grown crime?

I wonder how many of the beheadings are foreigners vs. citizens. The foreign executions seem to get the most attention by far.

Dozens of rape cases including minor victims have been booked in India even after India has legislated much harsher punishment for rape.

Sharia is still the best to deter crimes.

Reminds me of this story from last year, including:

"Later on Tuesday, SPA quoted a third statement saying that Sa’ad Al Mansuri, a Saudi, was beheaded in the central city of Buraida after he was convicted of shooting dead a fellow citizen, Munif Al Maqati, with a machinegun “following a dispute between the two”."

At least he wasn't a teen.

By fubar• 20 Feb 2013 16:00

Good point, Brit. But the population of Saudi Arabia is less than 10% of the USA.

So doesn't that make Saudi even more dangerous, even accounting for states that don't have the death penalty?

By fubar• 20 Feb 2013 15:58
fubar

So anyway, getting back to the point...

Saudi Arabia didn't invade Bahrain. And how do we know that? Because the USA said it didn't.

So either we believe the big nasty evil USA, in which case Saudi was doing the Bahrainis a favor by popping in for a visit, or we assume, as usual, that the USA is evil and can't be trusted and everything they say is wrong, in which case Saudi Arabia did invade Bahrain.

By britexpat• 20 Feb 2013 15:56

Twice as many people, approx, are executed in Saudi each year for crimes than the USA.

Does that make Saudi safer, since their punishments are tougher, or more dangerous, since it indicates that there is so much criminal activity?

Even in Saudi, hands are not cut off for first offence.

In addition, most of the crimes are committed by expats and not Saudis.

be the penalties, crime will be exist and become manifest as long as criminals and potential criminals know they can or may succeed in beating the system. For crimes to cease one needs to apply laws fairly and justly, regardless of who be the wrongdoer. I recall this story of how the Prophet was asked to show mercy on this certain criminal accused of robbery because she was of an influential family. To which he replied: "O people, those who have gone before you were destroyed, because if any one of high rank committed theft amongst them, they spared him; and it anyone of low rank committed theft, they inflicted the prescribed punishment upon him. By Allah, if Fatima, daughter of Muhammad, were to steal, I would have her hand cut off"

Can we say that is the case in any country today? No...hence crimes flourish among those confident that they will somehow get away.

But I also agree that better reporting is another reason why occurring crimes are becoming known today.

Yesterday as a part of social service we went to a labour camp where 100 labours were not paid for 5 months most of them have their ID expired in 2011 and they approach their authorities for help...but they have been asked to bring their own tickets if they want to fly back home..how can they bring tickets if they dont get paid.

No country at the moment is free from crimes and socio_economic problems...

"Crime in Saudi Arabia is relatively low when compared to some developed nations, but may be increasing due to higher levels of foreign workers and higher levels of unemployment among Saudi residents."

That people actually have the guts to steal in Saudi when they know that if they caught, they would be have their hands cut off.. Shariah law is the worst punihsment posssible and even with that, the crime rates have gone up it means something seriously wrong with Saudi Arabia..
