WORKING WITH PRIMARY HEALTHCARE CORPORATION, QATAR

Hello Qlers,

I’am an Indian Doctor and have received an offer to join PHCC in one of their “New Centres”. I would like to enquire about work ethic in this organisation and if they would actually deliver on their promises. I’ve read earlier posts of widespread racism but most discussions on this forum were 3 years earlier. I would like to know if the management has addressed these issues or is there still bias against people from a certain nationality. If you’re currently employed as a doctor or have been in the past I would really appreciate if you could kindly advice me on taking the decision. My concerns are related to:

a) Work ethic in PHCC

b) Housing accommodation promised - How good is it?

Thank you in advance

Thanks a lot Molten Metal & Love All Hate None for your valued advice. I'm beginning to have lowered expectations from the management. I've worked in Saudi Arabia and I thought Qatar is more like Dubai in terms of work ethic, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.

Hello Doctor

I am not a doctor by profession but an Government Employee working in Ministry of Interior & I have been provided by a health card which covers my immediate family members. I have visited the health centre a couple of times & hence thought of sharing my experience.

Things in the Government Organisations in Qatar work at a very slow pace & also depends on the nationality. Visa processing will take a long time. For Housing you need to follow up with the Housing Department without which your application would be untouched. Only after your employment contract is signed, your salary would commence with all arrears. In my case, it took 4 months. You will be provided with an advance which is not more than 5000 QAR only once to manage your expenses till the time salary is credited. This is same for all grades for Expats.

You need to ensure that your profession on the visa is clearly mentioned as Doctor & not EMPLOYEE which is a common practice by most of the Government organisations here for EXPATS.

Work Ethic is again a big time issue. You will be surrounded with Doctors who always prescribe Panadol (Paracetamol) for almost every illness. These Doctors are provided with high end technology devices but hardly know how to use them.

In an emergency the normal wait time is a month. Yes.. I am talking about critical health issues reported to the health centres as emergency.

We all government employees use health centres only for Sick Leave Certificate because private is not accepted & use private medical centres for medicines & diagnosis.

Lastly, you might be given as very attractive package here without which none of the Doctors in the world would like to relocate here. So if your intentions are to make money then you should definitely come here.

Best of Luck
