Which truck to ship?
Salam,
I own two trucks in the US, a 2005 Mercedes ML 350 and 2005 Grand Cerokee. I will be arriving soon to Qatar and i was thinking a bout shipping one of them. Could you help me answer these questions:
1. Does it make sense to ship? My understanding is cars are more expensive in Qatar than the US.
2. Which truck you think i should ship?
3. How hard is it to get the truck through customs?
4. Is it easy to register and insure the truck?
5. Do you think i will have hard time servicing the truck at the dealership since the truck was imported?
Your help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your reply.
Considering the shipping costs and the hassles I think it is just not worth the try !
Thexonic, Do you have any American Cars ??
I doubt it when I read you comments, I myself got 2 American Cars(Chevrolet and Ford), a German(Mercedes SL) and a Jaguar and the American Cars got by far the cheapest Spare Parts - Mercedes got extremely high spare part prices compared to the American cars I got.
Don't bother with any of them if they do not have Gulf Spec. Remeber it is hot here and Vehicles with std. Cooling system and AC System might get problems with the Heat.
hello too, for your question No. 1.. would it make more sensible to determine if we would know which US port of origin will u ship from. EAST OR WEST OR SOUTH?
Question 2> it would be far more advantageous to use GRAND CHEROKEE on Qatar than ML350 Merc... when you fed up of driving around the city highways... u can drive your CHEROKEE off roads even on sanddunes...
Question 3> on declared invoice value of the entire shipment. Only 5% is taken off as custom duty plus u may likewise deal with the local clearing agent to clear the shipment in behalf of you on a minimal charges.
Question 4> vehicle registration and insuring thereof is very quick and easy. One week would be too long for slow people to process. ;D
Question 5> there are existing service garage especially for MERC AND JEEP customers in Qatar. Spare parts also available.
Hope it would give u clues...WELCOME!!

depends on how much ur paying for shipping and customs here. if its more than say 10,000 USD then its pointless.
but im guessing it shud be cheaper...
its very hard to find spare parts for american specs cars
and its hard to resell it here
so ...
plus cars here have special specs for gulf(paint nd cooling system ...)
Its much cheaper to buy from here
