What is the life of a single male in Doha?

Hi all,

I have accepted a job offer with a Contractor in Doha and am due to move over in June to work as a Quantity Surveyor. I am wondering what life is like there for a male moving out alone?

I am Irish and 29. I have been trawling through this site for the last few weeks now and find it a great help (thanks) but would just like any advice anyone may have on what life is like. Is there much to do? Any advice on anything I should take with me? Anyone regretted moving out or anything like that? I just have the basic concerns really of going to a place I dont really know much about. Dont want to be bored and sitting at home alone every day.

What is working life like out there, particularly in Construction? Not sure what the working hours etc are (I better ask my Employer!)

Sorry about all the questions but there are many more in my head. Would just like to know initially if life is good in Doha, if it is then everything else will work out I guess!

Thanks

life is grand here. You coming over here like the rest of us to make a bit of dosh. The only down side is the socialising. But if you find the right crowd then you will hard have any time to spare.

Good luck and hope all goes well for ya when you move to Qatar.

Well buddy, to be honest nobody is coming here for having fun. The reason for almost all of expats here in Doha is earning more money. So coming here without great expectations will be better. Since Qatar is a small country (approx. 1 million population) there is not much to do here. Climate conditions are terrible and there is nothing can be done. But as you can find sth in any place you still can have fun, there are clubs at hotels, there are some beaches (sorry to say, no trees at all and as soon as the beach ends desert starts) if you love green you will miss it here. Last but not least if you have movie archive bring it with you. You will watch some movies when you will not be able to find sth to do as a single male.

Wish you all the best and good luck

Life for a quantity surveyor is good here because of growing advanced construction here.

Life is pretty much boring for bachelors regarding drinks and woman.

Not so many places to freak out. its a strict quiet country.
