What is it like to work for Al Jazeera English?

Hello all,

I currently work for an American television news organization and I’m exploring the possibility of making a move to Al Jazeera English. If I go ahead with this, it probably won’t happen for a few months. Meanwhile, even though there are many helpful posts on QL regarding working at AJE, most of them are three and four years old. Is there anyone who can describe what it’s like now at AJE? For example, do they still offer accommodation with their compensation packages? Is there compensation package competitive? And, is there still a very long wait for a work visa? Basically, has much changed over the years?

Thanks.

You're right, I haven't seen anything for a while now except a bit of kerfluffle about women broadcasters and their dress. But if you are hired they will provide housing, air tickets and medical while transportation, education allowance, etc., is negotiable. (You will want to see the housing first.) They will provide your visas for you and by law now in a timely manner. You will have to decide for yourself if it's a good salary. Generally, a competitive US salary plus 25% plus housing, etc., is considered standard. But you will find that, like Dorothy, you won't be in Kansas anymore. Some of us find this delightful, some do not.
