im moving to doha very soon and i wonder what personal things should i bring aside from clothes, shoes, thingies...do i need to bring ton of toilettries?
hey there i didnt check your profile so i dont knwo hwere you are from. I am from Australia and from my exeriences i would say bring toiletries. They pretty much have everything here though it just may not be the brand you want. Most of the cooking over here is from scratch so if you are a packet person for cooking bring some stuff (so long as there isnt any pork in it of course).
Sunnies and a hat are a must.
If you have kids bring baby food and kids stuff cause they dont have much over here and what they do have is VERY expensive! Nappies etc are quite reasonable though, cheap actually.
Anything electrical is probably cheaper in your home country and dvds and music is better from home. It is expensive and not a very good selection over here at all...just check the region for dvds to make sure they will work over here.
Hope this helps.
If you dont have it and you need it when you get here i am sure you will find a way to get it. Postage is very expensive too and takes a long time just so you know.
For the first days upon arrival please be sure to have your own supplies,I could tell you if you have special needs in toilleteries bring in you own stuff, but here we have great dept stores, and supermarkets as well as convenience stores in which you find everything you need, from sahmpoo to toothpaste, from diapers to cotton swabs.
So far I have found everything I have needed and also in good variety.
I too had some of the same concerns as you have. I have been here in Doha since April and pretty much have found nearly everything I need as far as toiletries and such. I was pretty surprised at the familiarity of items and thought things here would be more difficult.
Not to sound funny, but bring your good defensive driving skills, since driving in Doha can be challenging and bring a good attitude becaue I have found many impatient, inconsiderate people. I have also met some of the most helpful people, so it balances out.
Except for the heat and humidity, you should find this country a safe place to live. Good luck on your journey.
