WESTERN UNION TRANSFERS

Hi there,

I've never done a Western Union transfer, and was wondering if someone could give me some info on how they work.

(1) Is it true that they can be done at Doha Bank? (any branch)

(2) What information do I need from the person who I am sending to?

(3) How long do they take?

(4) What fees are involved?

Many thanks :)

Expatguy08,

The recipient can collect the money from any local western union branch and affiliates of that country just make sure he/she has a valid I.D. and the remittance transaction no. for verification purposes.

in Western Union. Better send QAR amount and you just have to pay 35 QAR for less than equivalent amount of 1000 USD. Let your recipient get it in your local currency in your home country.

Thank you for all that info... I did a bit more searching and it seems that Doha Bank DOES do Western Union. Though a lot of people say there is a place on Al Saad Street (between KFC and Royal Plaza) which is also good to go to.

One more question...

So I will put the recipients name and details down on the form... do they then go to THEIR local Western Union to pick up the money? Do I specify a certain branch of Western Union for them to pick it up at, or do I just say which city/country?

Sorry for the simple questions... never done this before!

Not sure about doing it via Doha Bank, but if you can sounds like it would be cheaper than with a Western Union transfer.

I transferred money last weeky via WU and the charge is about 10-12% !!!!

Not sure if your bank can do a western union transfer, but they can certainly do a wire transfer.

You normally need: recipients name, account number, phone number, bank name, and swift code.
