Transport and Others

Hi all,

My family and I will be moving to Doha soon, and am trying to get as much information as possible before I arrive.  One area we would like advice on is transport.  If possible we would prefer to only buy one family car, and utilize taxis etc for me to get to work.  However, I have read that taxis are notoriously unreliable.  Is this still the case?  If so, are private limos affordable and more reliable?  I would be working shifts so it wouldn't be a regular route, only when I couldn't use the car.

Thanks in advance.

it's better that you use rent-a-car service than taxis or private limos. it will be much easier for you than to take taxi or private limos everyday.

Taxis are now reliable.  You may try Karwa taxi & limo service tel. 44588888 but book in advance to give them chance to locate you. It has a fleet of cars and drivers and a call centre.  I use them quite often and satisfied with their service.  Another one is Sydney tel. 44449050 which is the official taxi and limo service of City Centre.  Both car companies are reliable and their taxis have meters. A long time and experienced limo and rent a car service is Fox.  It's important that the driver is able to find you and comes on time.

Your best bet is to lease a car instead of buying, I guess it works out a little more expensive than repayments but the garage take care of the servicing and registration every year etc.  Also if worse comes to worse and you lose your job you only have to hand the car back and not worry about selling it. Taxi's are unreliable so either buy a cheap second hand car for your wife and lease one for yourself, personally we (my husband and I) both had lease cars, they were only misubishi galants but got us from A-b with no bother and were not majorly expensive per month.
