I am planning to relocate to Qatar from US. I have a Nissan maxima car to transfer to Qatar. Does any one have experience in transferring car from US? Please explain the process.
WOW, answers are all over the place on this one aren't they. It is doable, do you want to? Roads here are not so hot and a Maxima will not do that well here, but there are lots of cars here on the road so yours would be no better or worse than theirs. The guys I work with (Americans) have found purchasing an SUV there and importing cheaper than buying here, and you can resell it when you leave. Right now, large SUVs in the US, well you can hardly give them away and with fuel here at about 75 cents/gallon well you can see that fuel economy is not as big a deal here. They look at buying an SUV 2 to 3 years old.......to save the drive off depreceation. Also allow 2 to 3k for shipping.
Dear Freind, the qatari traffic and customs will reject your request by bringing your personal car from US, because US specs differs from that of the gulf. I would suggest that you sell your car (or keep it if you want) and buy an SUV here in Doha, trust me you can afford it. Good luck and welcome to Doha!
The age of the car is one issue - older than 3 years, probably won't get an import permit.
Another issue is even if the car qualifies for an import permit, it was built to US specifications for sale in the US market - not the Gulf. I have often seen cars imported from North America literally disintegrate (seals/belts/interior fittings etc.) because they aren't built for the heat you will find here. Also, AC units are not usually capable of dealing well/long with 50C+ heat in the summer months.
Why bother at all? Selling it off there, and buying a new car here seems more easy..We get all the models here..u name it, they have got it here...and we have cheaper fuelhere, most people who can afford it drive a 4 wheel drive..
check http://www.nissanqatar.com/, if u want to check nissan vehicles..
before you decide on doing that, you may want to check if your vehicle is serviceable in Qatar. The US models may have the same names as the GCC models, but totally different budy styles.
I recall the US Maximas are the same as the GCC Altimas.
Well you need to have a freight agent to do the customs formalities for you in the US in order for you to bring your car to Doha. The vehicle should be 5 years or less. If you want I can give you an email address where you can send your inquiry, it is [email protected] or fax at 4550592 and you can send it to MARIA.

Might be better to think again

If your car is three years old or moe, they wont let you get it out of the customs hands.

So specify the model and year, engine size.
