actually I DID search to see if anyone has asked my same question, but couldn't see any answers specific to what I wanted to know.

Maybe I'll start a thread - OR phone a friend ;)

Hi Jauntie. I don't see a problem replying to you on this thread, as it's relavent to the original post.  However, I can't really help as we were lucky in that my wife's company dealt with all the paperwork required for her to sponsor me. But I'm sure there must be other people on QL who've done it themselves. It might be worth creating a new thread for your specific question.

My husband is working here - his contract with company is married status so no probs there.

At present I have a visitor's visa, valid for one year (I could have had it for up to 5 years, but I ticked the wrong box, duh), but I can only stay in Qatar for up to 3 months at a time.

It occurs to me, that if my husband were to sponsor me I could have a Resident's Visa (I don't need a work visa - well not yet anyway!), but I don't know how he goes about applying to sponsor me!

None of the other UK blokes in his office sponsor their wives, so they were unable to advise him and the admin bloke just looked at him like he'd stepped of the Star Ship Enterprise when he asked him! lol

Any ideas, folk?

Hub gets a form from ..... ????

Pays QR ?????

Medical Examination for me .... ???

Rather than hijack this thread further, perhaps if anyone knows the answer they could PM me, please.

I don't know the criteria, but I think men usually have no problem sponsoring their wife. I believe you need to be earning a certain amount, and nationality may have a part to play. I'd be more concerned about the living on site issue.

I am originaly from Pakistan but living in Canada right now, TallG do u know or where can i find out the criteria to sponser my wife?

I did ask KBR recruiter who I am dealing with about living off campus and he said it will be okay to do so, also I ask them about bringing my wife to Qatar which they said should be okay, and I have kept the email with me to back it up (hopefully that will be sufficient) :) , but you folks are right contract contains single status, so thats why i asked them these questions before hand,

There are pros and cons to both single and married status. For example, with kids it's probably better to go married status from a financial point of few cos of school fees, but single status will often get more leave than married status. Down to personal preference I guess, if the company are nice enough to give you the choice.

However, I've not heard of KBR allowing single status people to live off site, and they wont let spouses live on site with you.

oh I see, I'd be wary though bringing family with none of the other benefits, could work out very pricey!

siobhanhill - if you come here on a single status contract there's nothing to stop you bringing your spouse out here (assuming you meet the criteria to sponsor them so they can get their RP), it just means the company probably wont pay for their flights, medical care, etc, etc.

muker - do you know where you will be working yet? The single status people I know at KBR have to live on site, and your wife wont be allowed to live there.
