Skype

There seem to be a number of older (contradicting) posts regarding Skype. Does anyone know if Skype works and if not what other options are there for free video calls?

Some routers have a QOS (Quality of Service) setting. Which you can prioritize the traffic for the port number which Skype uses.(port number shown in Skype Advanced Options) But in most cases you would only have to do this if your router network is congested and busy.

anything other than a PC or in my case Mac Book Pro

I even have it running on my Nokia E61 for free messaging to other Skype users

Did you Google it first?

Indeed. Though tweaking and routing may help your call quality.
