I have taken up a job in Doha starting March 09. My family has been in Dubai for last 10 years. I have kids 4 and 6 yo. What schools in Doha should I consider for them.
If anyone has more info on the first post; IE new schools coming to Doha in 2009 & 2010, please do pass on the information, especially regarding Shady Side. Thank-you!
Ceders is not a school for special needs, my kids both were there and have NO special needs. They were accepted and adapted extremely well. Reason - brilliant teachers, small groups allows individual attention.Only Special thing about the school is the way they reach out to assist kids in settling in, and support that they will not find in bigger schools. This is brilliant in any way you look at it.
Ceders was, and I believe still is a good school. If it was not for the lack of sporting facilities I believe a lot of kids will never leave.
What school are your children attending in Dubai? If you are on British Passports I would personally recommend you apply to DESS, Doha College and Park House English School. DESS is good if you intend to relocate your children back to the UK in the near future but if you intend to be expat for a longer period of time I would seriously consider Park House! You can apply on line but you really need to visit the school in person and stress the importance of your application.
There a many many good schools in Doha - to suit any taste. The best advice I could give is to check out the website and go and have a look around the ones you think best suit your needs. Yes there are waiting lists but now is a good time to get your childrens names down as there will be movement over the easter and summer periods. Good luck.
Our full time education programme is for students of all nationalities from Reception to Year 12. Below is a description of our range of educational support services.
Language Support
Cedars provides intensive English language support within the structure of the British National Curriculum. This service is provided to students who have recently arrived in Qatar but do not have the required language skills to support themselves in English speaking educational setting. We aim to boost their English speaking, listening and comprehension skills so that they can adapt to the needs of an international school environment.
Halfway House
Many families who have recently arrived in Doha find that their children are placed on waiting lists for local schools with no guaranteed start date. With Cedars, your child can continue their education uninterrupted until a place becomes available in your chosen school*. However, we often find that students are so happy at Cedars they do not want to leave and continue to stay even though they have been offered a place elsewhere!

Out of Year Group Students
We facilitate students with specific educational requirements which cannot be met by the local schools. These are the students who are “out of year group”, from countries such as Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, or students who are too old to be integrated into the secondary education system.
There are really good schools in Doha, With Doha college and American school, as well as Parkhouse being excellent. The problem is to get in, as there is a waiting list. Will your sponsor pay the fees?
There is a good school Called Ceders , they should have an opening. They help a lot of people . It is a registered school, although the name suggests a tutoring center. Good luck
Get them into any school that you can. You should start contacting schools now. School places are hard to come by in Doha. I can see that you are from the UK so i would suggest the following schools:
DESS
Doha College
Park House English School
ISL (international school of London)
Doha Montessori and British school
QIS (Qatar International School)
Right now just find a spot for your kids in any school and you can tranfer them later.
There are 4 new schools opening up in September, you will probably be able to get them into any of these, depending on yor budget.

What is the School in the Al Khor compound like ? Anyone have children there?
just googled it as you advised. And JUST for you, these services are not remedial or 'Special Needs'.
These are children that are waiting to be slotted into a mainstream school. Half way house you could say.
Looks a bit that way to me...I take it you work there.....

You know exactly what I meant, Justmoi. There I stand corrected, Cedars is not for remedials, whats it for then?
Comes from the Latin to remedy something. If you meant that Ceders is a place for children with 'Special Needs' you are wrong.
remedials.....Is there another word for it?
I missed a comma.
You remedial or Cedars?
Google it....
What on earth do you mean?
Isn't Cedars for remedials?
I had my daughter on a waiting list for 1 1/2 years for one of the 'good' schools, she's got in for September!
