Salary package (reposted with info)

OK, many thanks to all for your kind advice, but I see a couple of misunderstandings which, for my own benefit, am eager to clarify:

-The salary package is $46,500 Riyals/month, broken up as $33,000 riyals base salary + $11,000 accomodation + $2,500 transporation. On top of that, the offer includes health insurance for my family and schooling for my child + air tickets for all 1/year back to home country.

-I haven't drawn a budget, but compared to Australian standards (where I come from), I could be looking at spending some $18,000 - $19,000 riyals a month in living expenses including accomodation (rent).

thanks.

chuckle....not missing anything...

the villas are not furnished. The flats at 10K and up are furnished....

Again, it really depends on what you settle for....

can i clarify - there are 3-4 bedroom villas available for 11,000 but a decent furnished 2 bedroom apartment will set me back 8~10,000??

am i missing something?

yea double check the schooling aspect (what Novita said)...and you should be good.

11,000 can get you a very nice 2 or 3 bedroom apartment in a good area. If you want a villa, you're going to need at least 13,000.

Other than that, that's a very, very solid offer...you can save a lot with that if you wish...

Novita's advice should be taken.

Do ensure that the school fee's and any capital charges are paid out by the company. In addition, if you do not want to be out of pocket, make sure the non-refundable and refundable school registration and deposits are included.

For example, Doha College has a Qrs.10,000/- refundable deposit per new student. This is returned without interest when the student leaves the school.

The housing allowance is ok but do keep in mind that some compounds are considerably more than 11K per month. (15k and up) Your house hunt may result in finding one and having to do a little subsidizing. Nevertheless, not getting more than 11k does not have to be the deal breaker.

As for your family budget, it really depends from family to family. Having all school related charges taken care of makes a major difference.... You can definitely live on 19k though... definitely.

To help a little, here is a bit of an idea on what we spend family wise, approxmiate mind you.

Food & beverage - Qrs.7,000

Water & electricity (4 bed house) - Qrs.1,200 in summer months and around Qrs.800/900 in winter months.

Kids classes out of school for one - Qrs. 900

Your car allowance is fine and you will easily obtain a car on that allowance. You will probably procure a second car for your wife via bank installments so this will be a monthly expense.

Hope this helps. Your offer is good though, comfortable enough.

lol you've got an amazing deal dude! 33k and everything else paid for....

@novita, I can get him a 3-4 bedroom villa in a compound for 11k ;)

In fact I shared that compound info with 17 QLers :P

It was next landmark and was newly built too.

For schooling ... make sure your company paying the fees fully not giving you allowance. And if you plan to send your kid/s to american school, i would advice to clarify with your employer that they will pay the capital fee (last time i heard) about QR 15.000 per kid per year (outside tuition fees).

For housing ... 3 bedroom villa not in the compound, you will have to get ready to pay QR 15.000 minimum.
