Questions to pet owners in Doha

We're bringing our other baby, Sheltie, and we wanted to know what kind of pet items we must bring with us because they're simply not availble. And because he's a picky eater with a sensitive stomach, I need to be careful about his diet.

1. Are there poop bags? (to pick up poop)
2. Chew toys made of tendon (the kind he prefers)
3. Greenies or any chew toys for freshening breath
4. Brand of dog food available (any chance that they may have Science Diet?)
5. Pet shampoo/conditioner

Poppy, do you happen to know also about kittens? I'm living in Dubai now, and moving to Qatar within a month or so. I was wondering whether it will be easy for me to find these for Tigger:

1) Whiskas for kittens and cats?

2) Cat Chow?

3) Tom Cat litter?

4) Arm & Hammer deodorizer?

5) good vets?!

Many thanks :)

Hi

As a pet owner myself (and someone working with animals) here in Doha I am happy to answer your questions.....

1) Poo bags - just arrived in the supermarkets here for the first time! Be aware that many products are bought in to test the market, if they do not sell well they will not return!

2) Chew toys are few and far between, extremely limited (almost all are rawhide) and are far more expensive than 'at home'. Again other dogs treats are available some of the time. The supply is more regular than before but not reliable. Most of us stock pile when things appear in the shops!

3) Greenies, not specifically but some breath freshner chews (mainly IAMS/Eukanuba) but very expensive. Bring a stock with you.

4) Science Diet is available through the vets - try emailing the following to check stock/type etc....

[email protected] & [email protected]

5) Shampoo etc.... Yes there are some brands available in the shops. This is one product that seems to be constant so no worries there.

Hope this helps, us pet owners do manage but if you have space, bring a stock of specific items that you need.
