Hello to all Aussie friends. I am a Filipino currently working here in Qatar holding a Qatari driving license. We will be moving to Melbourne, Australia soon. Can I drive in Australia with Qatari Driver’s License? Do I need to take test or not? Tnx
Your Qatari license cannot be exchanged. You will have to undergo a computer test and actual road test to obtain a Victorian license. If you are going in as a Permanent resident you may be able to use your overseas driver's license for 3 months. In these 3 months time you need to obtain a Victorian license. Just a word of advise before you go, you need to unlearn all the bad habits you learned from Qatar while driving. It's a much more civilised world out there in Melbourne and road manners, politeness is important, and above all use your indicator!! I been here for 5 months and I can't believe how rude people can be here on the road!! Btw I am from Melbourne...Good luck with your move!!
Your Qatari license cannot be automatically exchanged for an Australian one. You have to take a test which is in two parts, one a multiple choice examination and the other a practical driving test.
Each state has slightly different rules but for example in Queensland check out:
Some overseas licenses are able to be used if you are a permanent resident, but check on the above site for Queensland. For other states just Google "Australian driving licenses"
