DOHA ictQatar would be
working on a project with
Qtel and Vodafone to
increase Internet accessibility
through high bandwidth.
This was stated by Secretary-
General of ictQatar Hessa al
Jaber while talking to Qatar
Tribune on the sidelines of
ictQatar-sponsored Forum
for Journalists programme
on Saturday.
“We are already in talks
with Qtel and Vodafone to
increase the broadband and
the bandwidth which will be
quite beneficial for the
media. But, at the same time,
we have to see to it that it’s
not too expensive,” al Jaber
told Qatar Tribune.
Commenting on the possibility
of a third telecom operator
in Qatar, al Jaber said
ictQatar would be closely
monitoring the telecom
market this year and would
offer suggestions to the government
on whether to have
a third telecom operator or
stick to the two existing
operators after an assessment
of the market scenario.
Asked if consumers in
Qatar could expect better tariffs
once Vodafone started
operations, al Jaber said,
“Usually, whenever there is
competition in the market,
there will be a corresponding
improvement in the quality of
goods and services. However,
when it comes to pricing and
tariffs, it will be better to leave
it to the market to determine,”
she said. When asked
ifVodafone Qatar will start its
operations in March, al Jaber
said, “If God wills, it will start
on time.”
In reply to a query if
ictQatar planned to conduct
similar forums in future as
well, al jabber said ictQatar
would hold workshops in the
next six months on advances
in telecommunications and
technology.

I'm a bit miffed about the "inshallah" from Al Jaber though :o(
