Propane or Natural Gass Grill?

Hi everyone!

I read in the forum before that there are no good BBQ grills availabel in Qatar. If this is true, I am going to send one with my household goods which is shipping out this week.

Question is, I want a gas grill, should I buy a Liquid Propane or Natural Gass grill here in the states to bring to Qatar? I don' want a charcoal one, but now that I am shopping I am wondering if it makes a difference, and if the connectors are the same to a propane or natural gas tank in Qatar as the standard ones we have here in the USA, anyone know about this that can enlighten me on which to get?

Thanks so much!!

Kiki

jolobo - received your email. . .sorry for not responding yet!

Some people flag down the gas trucks when they see them, but a friend of mine told me about a gas truck that pretty much stays put. . .so I always buy from him now.

If you are coming from Landmark on Al Markhiya, drive toward the Villagio. You'll go under the D-ring flyover. At the next light turn right.

The gas guy is always parked in front of a very small grocery store (more like a mini-mart) on your left. You'll drive by him and will then need to turn around at the first stoplight - it's the stoplight at which you would turn left if wanted to go to Compass Int'l School.

After you have turned around you'll see him on your right.

I strongly suggest that you purchase two tanks so you always have one ready. It is SO worth the money. Tanks, as I recall, run about QR450 for two (with the gas). Sometimes the gas truck guys will sell the adaptors and hose; if they do then go ahead and get it all from them. I have heard that Carrefour sometimes sells them, but I never had any luck getting it there.

It's worth noting that the gas in Qatar burns MUCH MUCH hotter than the propane in the U.S. We pretty much keep our grill on "low" because anything higher is blazing hot.

Good luck - and welcome to Qatar!

Hey where can I get those Propane tanks you are talking about. I am ordering a Gas/Charcoal grill from Home Depot and my biggest worry is the tanks and adapter(regulator). I was going to buy the adapter in the states (they say type 1) but I am not sure it will fit the tanks here. Thanks in advance

Give me a shout when you arrive regarding the propane tank. It took me FOREVER (as in months!) to figure out how to get a tank.

I recommend getting two so you'll always have a spare. . .it's not like you can just stop by Kroger or CVS to exchange your empty tank :(

Good luck with the move!

Thanks so much for the info!! I bought one yesterday and got it into the container which is leaving with all our stuff today! yay, just in time. I was just in Qatar two weeks ago, did not see grills anywhere but also didn't see propane tanks but go figure, that IS the land of all natural gas so... was just worried if I'd need adaptors and such but thankgod I can get them there!

Regards,

Kiki

The BBQ grills here are expensive and not well-made. I would purchase one from Lowes or Home Depot (or wherever) and leave it in the box.

When you get here you can purchase propane tanks, a new hose and the adaptor for it.

Good luck with your move!
