Private Hospitals

I'm just going through the insurance information my husband's company provided us with and it has a list of hospitals which we can use.  I'm a little confused as to how it works with also using Hamad Hospital (which is not on the list) and the govt. issued medical card.  If someone could clear that up for me, and let me know opinions on the following facilities, I would greatly appreciate it.

Here's a list of where we can go:

Al Emadi Hospital

American Hospital

Doha Clinic

Qatar Medical Centre

The Apollo Clinic

Any places to avoid?  Any recommendations?  I'm still a little confused as to how it works here.

Thanks in advance.

It seems that you will not have to worry about your medical.

First of all, you have a health card. This covers the Hamad hospital services. Depending what you need to be done, you will have to pay a small price.

However this also allows you to go to the medical clinics, which are all over town. These are good for small sicknesses, like cough, tetanus shots, small bobo's as we say.

When you go there you do not have to pay for the doctors visit. You pay for the medication. FYI I had to pay a total of QR 8.- for antibiotics pills & cream, 2x ventolin & painkillers. Got the tetanus shot as well. Also the childrens emergency is very good.

If you need more complicated things, then you might want to go to a private hospital. My favorite is Al Emadi hospital. But then again, what line of medicine would you be looking for?

FYI if you need a MRI for your breasts you can only do this at Hammad.

So depending on what you need select your hospital.

I heard that Al rafa clinic is good, though crowded in the evenings.

Apollo clinic had good set of dedicated doctors, but through a very good friend of mine, heard that reliable doctors are leaving the clinic owing to bad attitude from the management. in a short period the gynaecologist, radiologist and orthopedic surgeon and a dental surgeon have resigned and left the country for good.

Al Ahli is good alternative.

try Hamad hosp for serious illnesses. its the last resort.

goodluck !!

personally ive tried american hospital, and always had bad experiences there, if you are lucky to find a specific dr, hes pretty much useless. Theres a female peadtrician whos quite good, but if shes not on shift then you pretty much have to go else where...

Ive heard great reviews about doha clinic, although its very busy an you can be there for hours(from what friends have told me)...

The emergency children pediatric service is good (its governemnt and free)..Ive had good experiences theres compared to some so called good private hospitals..

You will eventually get a feel of which places you like and dislike and that may suit you, unfortuntaely here its trial and error...

Myself and family had been with Apollo for nearly three years.  I had found them to be good although it is very busy in the evenings.

Hey, why they are busy?  Because patients like them !!!

at Hamad hospital you must first have a health card. they only accept insurance for the staff other than that no more.Emergency treatment is free of charge for everybody including expat. For other department, expats and visitors has to pay for every treatment done.

The best health care privided here is at Hammad. For small issues, private clinics/hospitals are good.

I have private insurance card and got health card. Specially for kids, I now prefer going to kids emeregency.Have to wait though
