Police clearance / finger-printing process in the US

Can someone who went through this process provide details, please?

The Qatar Embassy in Washington DC provides the following steps:

Certificate of Good Conduct Requirements

Finger Prints:

Notarized by the notary public (County, City)

Notarized by the Secretary of State (State, Province)

Ministry of Foreign Affaires of the Country. (Canada, Peru, Mexico, and Chile)

Notarized by the US State department Authentication Division in Washington D.C. (Tel: 202-647-5002) (YES, MUST BE AUTHENTICATED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT IN WASHINGTON DC)

Are they talking about notarizing the actual fingerprint cards or the criminal record document obtained using these fingerprint cards? The dept of public safety in my state said they can provide a notarized "Letter of Good Conduct" based the finger print results. They can give me a set of finger prints too but they will be un-notarized.

Can someone please share his/her experience? Thanks.

Hello everyone:

I wonder the re. police certificate, at what stage it is required? Is it for issuing the work visa or once you reach qatar on work visa then you need it to process your RP?

Thanks and Regards,

Actually you can notarized pretty much anything... The notary is notarizing your statement or signature. I had my fingerprints card notarized through a sworn statement that all the information that it has belongs to me.... it worked. I just went to a notary within my company and it worked.

No, I am not going to be working in the education city.... I am moving internally within my (for-profit) company to Qatar....

Thanks for all the help you extended.

Actually, the fingerprint cards were not notarized in my case, only the criminal record certificate. So, Are coming to work here in education city?

I called the Dept of Public Safety of the State of Connecticut. They said will notarize the criminal record certificate (they also call it Letter of Good Conduct) but they don't have the policy of notarizing the fingerprint cards.

So I don't really know what to do now. Any suggestions?

There are agencies in the US who will do all of this running around for a fee. Do a Google search. I had some docs authenticated through an agency in DC a couple of years ago. It cost me about $150 per doc, but it was easier to pay the money than to deal with the aggravation of doing it all myself.

"Why 4 cards?"

Just because. ;-)

1. I am not sure why they wanted four cards. That is just what Tamu wanted me to do.

2. I think I had to resend them off to get notarized by the state notary.

3. Yes I had to send everything to the state notary, then DC, then the Qatar embassy.

4. The document was from TAMU.

If you are coming over here to work at TAMU, then the Qatar Support Office on campus in the US was very helpful, if you have questions, you should contact them directly.

Chancetlu,

I am sure it's a cumbersome process. I live in the state of Connecticut. Here are some very specific questions. I just want to get it right the first time. Hope you will be able to answer.

1. Why 4 cards? To get four 4 certificates?

2. Did you get your fingerprint cards back from the Texas DPS along with the certificate(s)? Were they notarized too?

3. Did you have to send the fingerprint cards along with the certificate to the state notary, DC and the Qatar Embassy? Did they only notarized the certificate or the fingerprint cards as well?

I guess the document you are referring to is from TAMU. Is that right? I have it but even that is confusing in terms of providing exact deatails.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Utmanzai

I just went through all of this in November and December. It is a royal pain. I don't know which state you are coming from, but I had to get fingerprint cards from the local police department (4 sets). Send them to the department of public safety in my state (Texas) to get a certificate showing that I had a clean criminal record. Next had to send all that to the state notary. Then to the secretary of state in Wash DC. Then to the Qatar Embassy, then to Qatar. I have actual step by step instructions somewhere if you want me to email them.
