No Insurance, A Crime?

Elegance

The car which hit us yesterday, after jumping the red light does not have an insurance. So who will pay for the repair of our car with the airbags out, a big damage at the front corner, front glass shattered and all the doors loose and jittery. What is the right way to go now?Register a complaint to police, file a case in court(which I know is headache)or remain quite and take whatever comes.
With panic attacks in nights and aches in the day, suffering for none of our fault....The honeymoon is over.......!!!
A family new to Doha.

DEAR SAMERQATAR,

WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE.WE ARE HALFWAY THROUGH THE EXACT PROCEDURE, YOU HAVE PAINSTAKINGLY WRITTEN.

IF THE LADY DOES NOT HAVE INSURANCE, I GUESS THE HUSBAND WILL NOT BE TOO, LEAVE ALONE LICENSE!

NOW I UNDERSTAND THAT DRIVING A NICE BMW AND WEARING A NICE ABAYA DO NOT EXACTLY MEAN ALL IS WELL.......!NO OFFENCE!!

I THOUGHT OF BUYING A CAR, BUT NOW AM THINKING OF USING "KARWA PRODUCTS".HI!HI!...

Such a very strange thing happening frequently now in Doha ,a lot of cars is running without being caught since long time without insurance or road permit

They hit your car and no one to blame them ,no penalties also against them ,the police will just let them go

It happened to me and to 2 of my friends ,totally the other party mistake and he admitted it but saying I have no money to pay

So what to do ???? take him to the court "that is the police advice " ,the police man want only to close this case and forward your papers to the court then after a long time you will get nothing

And can any one leave his care for 1 year without fixing it ,,,just because it's still pending for the court results (this for sure will cost you more )

If you fix your car from your own pocket then you don’t have a case any more

The stupid think that police will not help you until you pay all your violations then he can open the file , however the one who made this mistake and don’t have insurance don’t have to pay any thing and they will just let him go and his permit is expired and nothing to be registered on their system

After you pay your violations ,The police man will tell you take your car and source for 3 quotations

After that the will take the lowest quote and ask the other party if he can pay , he will say no 

Then the police will tell you that you have to take part of the pay as the parts was use for so and so years

So may be 25 - 50% according to the age of your car ,then again he will say that he don’t have money 

The person who did not have insurance don’t have a problem ,but your are the one who suffer the most until you get feed up and fix from your own pocket

Most of uninsured cars are belong to Qatari and no one to question !!!!

I wonder what if ,uninsured car hit some one and break him hard ,who will pay for the medication or we still have to check for quotations

I just find this amazing that you can drive with no insurance and there are no consequences. Qatar really is a third world country isn't it... What would happen if someone died? would they still say, oh sorry never mind, their Arabs, so well fuck off.

That the police won't or can't do anything about it is just mind boggling. I sometimes feel that living here is like reading the noddy books and living through them.

And this, if your qatari it will be your fault malarky makes me wanna punch someone. i guess, in britain discrimination is fround upon and is driven out of society, but here, it is almost promoted.

madness personified. No the wonder the middle east is alienated from the civilised world.

Like Novita said, if the other driver has no insurance, the accident becomes your fault, especially if the other driver is Qatari. It's happened to us before, so theres no point even taking them to court, you just have to go along with it, because that's how things work.

If the other party have no insurance, the police will ask you to repair under your insurance.

I had an accident , not as bad as yours. Not my fault, the other party rang a witness that come 10 minutes after the accident, and I got the blame.

Taking the other party to court will be alot hassle, the hearing will be in arabic, and you will loosing money and the time. Not worth it IMO.

You MUST report this to the police!! ASAP! Take the driver's name and the car's license. And make some enquiries with your own insurance company and see if they can get the car fixed for you. I'm sorry to hear that, and I hope everything will turn out all right!

My best wishes..
